Test Run During Spring Break

Last week we made a test run with the RV after getting it out of the shop.  It had been there since November.  We decided to make a run to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for a week while the grandson was out of school.  A few of our friend were going to be at Pine Mountain by the Creek and we joined them.  Good thing we did make this shake-down cruise because there was problems.  The rear slides would not come out.  We tried everything to get them out but no deal.  A service call was in our future, but not today, because we had to experience sleeping with slides in first.  Now if you do not know , if the slides do not go out you cannot get to anything in the rear of the RV.  Such as, the refrigerator, Kitchen cabinets, living room, dinning table, just to mention a few.  The good thing is our bedroom is up stairs so it did not effect us since the slides were in the rear of the RV where Bobby and Hunter were going to sleep.  (They had to get on hands and knees to crawl to get to their beds).

Well to make a long story short, my friend and driver, Larry Watkins, carried me to an RV place that had mobile service and I was able to schedule service for the next day.  The serviceman (Fred) came and he could not figure out why the slides would not come out and had to call the manufacturer to see if they knew.  After about an hour, they took him through all the steps and figured out that there was two buttons located on the inside of the storage compartment that had been turned so the slides were not allowed to come out.  (I guess this happened while in the shop because they were working on this part of the RV).  Now, these buttons really look like screws with a cap on each.  This is why I never considered them as a fix.  This is a setup so in case someone wanted to stay at a rest stop and not put out all the slides this button would cut off the slides and not allow them to extend.  Crazy and why did someone not tell us about this.  Very expensive learning experience.

We finally were able to get the slides out and the rest of the trip went fine, I think.  We hung out with our friends Larry and Kathy Watkins and Terri and Tom Arnold.  We built a fire each night even though the wind was blowing 50 miles an hour each night and it was cold most of the time we were there.  Hunter (grandson) was able to have a big time and got to ride scary rides down the mountain and drive the go-carts around the track.  (do not tell his mother).  There was an indoor swimming pool that we used to carry him swimming.  indoors because it was to darn cold outside.

Well, the real trip starts in less than a month.  Cindy and I will spend the remainder of the days getting everything together that we are going to take and arguing about what we are not going to take.
Bobby (our son) and Ashley (daughter) have book flights to come visit us on the last part of the trip.  Ashley is going to take care of Bobby for us until then.

Next post will be when we reach a good WIFI spot on the trip.
