We moved from Livingston, MT to Cody, WY on Thursday, June 30th. This is also known to us as moving day. Moving day takes a lot of time because you have to break camp and start to the other location, get lost and make a few wrong turns before you arrive at the new location.
We arrived and found the campground without too much trouble. We are at the Absaroka Bay RV park, named after the mountains with the same name. The park is right in town and convenient to everything.
Today we just went out exploring the town. Visited the visitor center (Chamber of Commerce) and got some information of things to do here besides the obvious, of visiting the Buffalo Museum, Irma Hotel and gun fight on the street, Rodeo, Beartooth Hwy, and Chief Joseph Hwy. They are preparing for a big parade on the 4th of July and there is a play (Musical) not my favorite but it's about the history of the Constitution. We plan on seeing both. After the visitor center we went for a walk in downtown near the Irma Hotel. Cindy went to the bank just before we started and it is a good thing because we must have bought 50 T-shirts. Some were a good deal at $5 for the 4th of July celebration shirt and others were $2 a shirt on sale. Cannot wait to use them as rags after the first washing. Because you know they are going to fall apart!!!
After the shopping we went to watch the famous gun fight at the Irma. They are doing something new to me . I was here in 1998 and 2000 and people just stood around and watched the gun fight or sat on the sidewalk. Now, they sell you a chair for $ 2 bucks to sit and watch and it is first come, first serve so the earlier you are the better the seat. We got one on the front row. The gun fight is about the same as I remembered it and Cindy enjoyed it for the first time. Although, she did comment that the players needed acting lessons. After the show we went inside and had dinner. Those of you who have been here already know it is a good place to eat dinner or breakfast. Everything in the hotel is the same of course and the restaurant is the same as it was in 1904 when it was built, with the exception they took out the pool tables and added tables and chairs.
This is interesting because these cowboys and cowgirls were not part of the gun fight but rode by to say hello to the crowd, let the horses leave a few land mines, did not clean it up and the bad guys in the fight, almost laid down in a pile.
Now I am not sure but I think this may be the same Buffalo Bill Cody I saw in 2000.
These are some of the actors displaying the colors during the National Anthem.
This cowboy lost the fight during a fake duel, the count is suppose to be 10 the other guy turned and fired on 9.
These are the players for the gun fight.
Just thought this was neat even though I have seen several lights like this. This was inside the restaurant of the Irma Hotel
This is part of the bar (could not get it all in the photo) I believe this bar was given to Buffalo Bill by Queen Victoria sometime around 1904.
Cindy at the bar. They have stools now instead of standing up at the bar.
They gave the moose a little decoration for the 4th of July.
