July 2, 2016, Saturday

Second full day in Cody, WY.  Today we decided to go to the Ole Trail Town museum located just outside of town.  There are old log cabins that have been moved from their original locations in the hills and valleys to this location so they can be preserved.  They have also moved several graves of trappers, cowboys, mountain men and buffalo hunters to the site.  My favorite is John (Jeremiah) Johnson.  He was a trapper and married a Flathead American Indian and a Crow Indian come by his cabin one day and killed his wife and unborn child.  Needless to say he went on the war path and in return killed a bunch (I cannot remember the number but it is said to be over 250) of Crow Indians for revenge.  He would cut out their liver and take a bite of it when he killed them.  This put the fear of God in the Indians.  There was a movie made about him staring Robert Redford in the 1970's.  For you younger people it is a good movie and worth renting if you can find it.
This is the grave site of all the people buried here.

Here are some photos of the cabins and wagons and Elk horns.

Here is a two headed calf that was mounted and put in one of the cabins as you can see.  I HAVE HEARD OF THIS BEFORE BUT NEVER SEEN A STUFFED ONE OR LIVE ONE BEFORE!!

These are two of my favorite photos of the whole place.  One is a water wagon and the other is a sod busters (farmer) wagon.  Would love to get these mounted one day.

This is a saloon that was moved to this location from the hole in the wall and is suppose to be where the Hole in the Wall gang hung out.  Including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Kid Curry.  Supposedly, there are bullet holes into he floor where there were shootings and so forth but we did not see any.
They had a lot of old wagons and buckboards stored in a barn that was built for them in 1984

After the tour of the Ole Trail Town, we went to the center of town where they were having a Fourth of July fair.  It was nice and we ending up eating lunch under a shade tree in the park.

Last night, we went to the musical 1776 which was put on in the music hall located on the edge of town. I think it was mostly locals doing the different parts and it was not bad.  Cindy loved it. There is a movie by the same name that was out several years ago, you may remember it.   The thing lasted 3 1/2 hours.  Needless to say I was ready to leave when it was over.  We met a lot of nice locals sitting around us and they wanted to keep us talking because they like the accent of the southerner.  Cindy had fun and believe me that is what counts!!  Until next time.  Happy Trails!!
