July 3, 2016 Sunday

Today we visited the Buffalo Bill Dam visitors center and the Buffalo Bill State Park, both located about 8 miles west of Cody, WY.  The dam was very interesting because it was the largest and highest damn in 1910 when it was finished.  Some of the engineering skills were carried over to the Hover Dam when it was built.  For example, the arc in the damn walls was copied from the Buffalo Bill Damn.  They had to tunnel through the mountain three times in order to get the road need to carry the equipment and supplies for the construction crew.  One tunnel is longer than the rest and it is impressive to know that it was created during that time period.

Another shot of the same thing just way back.  Notice the wood that collects at the dam.  This wood comes from other parts of the lake and gathers here.  Not sure how they clean it out.

This is the power house of the dam it is located at the bottom of the dam wall near the river.
