July 12, 2016 Devils Tower: A Close Encounter

We arrived at Devils Tower on Sunday, July 10, 2016, without incident, unless you want to count me ignoring the GPS lady and going 15 miles out of the way!!  But we made it and set up the rig and relaxed the rest of the day.  This is the first site that we have stayed at that has a swimming pool.
After we got every thing up Cindy went for a swim or more like a sun bathing experience.  She is white now and wants to correct that and get a tan.  I did notice that she only got a sun burn on one side of her body and that she is wanting to build mud/clay mountains. (If you do not understand go rent the movie)

This whole area has changed since I have been here in 1998.  The original store and bar has now closed and there are new buildings across both sides of the street where you enter the park.  One is a trading post and the other is the store for KOA campground.

The tower looks the same but there does appear to be some of it falling to the bottom.  We took a walk around the entire tower which was not bad and worked some of the fat off.  There were several people climbing the tower and it was interesting to watch some of it but they were moving too slow to keep our interest.  They have benches all around the bottom of the tower so that when you walk around you have a place to rest.  This was great because there was a good breeze and it was relaxing to sit and watch the people.
This is viewing the Tower from HWY 24 coming into the park.

Photo taken during our walk around the base of the tower

This is a view from the southwest which gives a whole different view of the tower.

There is a prairie dog field with hundreds of them living at the base of the mountain.  They dug holes every where.

This photo shows both of the new building or new to me and each side of the road.

This photo show where the old building is that we stopped at in 1998 and had refreshments.  It is now closed.
