June 8, 2016

Today we had reservations to the Chuck wagon supper at the B-J Ranch.  What the heck were we thinking???  Now a little background on Chuck wagon suppers.  Several years ago when my brother was alive we went to Arizona for a vacation with him and his wife (Melanie).  Now, I will not take the blame here because Cindy and my sister in-law Melanie wanted to book the activities and they booked this dinner.  The brochures made it sound like it was outside at a real Chuck wagon and wranglers fed you and it was a great experience. Well, it was in a Butler building (look it up) with a few decorations on the wall.   We got inside this place and we were seated in the back and you had to wait until others were called and then you had your chance to get up and get your food, which looked like it was cooked in a school lunch room, and was served the same way.  The food was so bad we did not eat it and waited for the entertainment hoping it would be better.  It wasn’t!!  So we decided to get up and leave.  When we did, this a wrangler shouted at us “where ya’ll going”, ya’ll can’t leave!!!  It made me mad so I said “Anywhere but here”, and watch us. Or something to that effect.

Well, this brings us to Wyoming 2016.  We were looking for something to do during an evening and what do you know they had a Chuck wagon supper in Jackson Hole.  Not sure where we got the brochure for this one, but several people recommended it in stores that we visited.  So, we decided to give it a try.  I think we both had forgotten had bad the other one was.  We went to the place (get there early so you get a good seat the brochure said) 2 hours early (Cindy does not like to be late for anything, even a supper that will kill you).  Had to wait in a cover canopy with about hundred other people and wait so they could charge us $57 for beans, potatoes and a meat.  The other choice of meat that we could have chosen was chicken, even at a cattle ranch.  This should have sent us running!!  But we chose B_B_Q and Ribs.  Or at least this is what we think we had.  I know the Ribs did have bone in it, but it may not have been beef!!

Second worst Chuck wagon meal I have ever had!!  The entertainment was better than the other one.  A lot better.  To be honest the $57 was worth the entertainment.  It was two brothers (whose father owned the ranch) and two other wranglers that had help serve the food.  They sang a lot of old western songs but they were not bad and they added comedy to the routine.  One guy, who was the tallest of the five and looked the cowboy part did a Michael Jackson song with the moon walk in boots.  That was funny.  It made us feel some better that the group was good at entertaining.  But remind me not to book one of these again!!

One the way back to the RV park we saw two moose right on the side of the road that leads into Jackson Hole and we were stopped by a herd of buffalo crossing the road several miles outside of Jackson Hole headed north to the Grand Tetons.

Well this got Cindy all worked up and for the next 30 miles she sits on the edge of her seat and occasionally whispered at me to slow down or I was going to hit a big animal!!  Well, two Elk crossed in front of us about 20 miles on up the road and yes you guessed it Cindy went from a whisper to a very loud shout, scream, or holler.  I had to drive 25 in a 45-mile speed zone for the rest of the trip.  (But in my defense, it was very dark, no street lights, and I (Cindy) did not want to hit and hurt or kill one of these beautiful animals. The other (mostly Orientals) people around here, drive like uneducated dumb asses!!!!) Sorry if I offend anyone.  NOT

Enjoy the photos.
